Window channel bar fitting to door glass, help

Hi,
Wanting to tint windows that have scratches.
So I purchased new ones and removed the lift channel easy enough, I placed newspaper over glass and a small block of wood on the channel and slid a hammer onto the wood gently as not to break the glass and it came off.

The question I have is what is the best way to refit the lift channel without breaking the window glass.

My thinking (probably wrong) is to place new rubber seal onto glass and gently tap channel bar onto the glass using a rubber mallet.

Can anyone tell me the correct way?????

I purchased the rather expensive bug ( not for me) with a 3 year restoration and some things still need to be attended to, rather a sorry state for the amount of money the previous owner spent on it.

thanks,
Darryl

Thanks

you are on the right track

Have you got the old window out?

You need to disconnect the window regulator and slide the glass in the channels
I just press in the lift channel

LOTS of help on YouTube

Make sure the glass is clean, and resting on a soft surface such as carpet.

Fit the NEW rubber over the bottom edge of the glass, and smear a little glycerin [available from chemists] on the OUTSIDE of the rubber - don't use silicon.

Make sure the channel is facing the right way, then tap it gently down over the rubber. Wipe off excess glycerin...job done!

I usually put the top of the window in my lap and tap the lift channel on with rubber mallet, if you hit too hard you will get a sore lap

Thank you all for the helpful replies.
The window glass in new and clean, and I have a new rubber even though the old one has only seen 5000 klms of travel.
I purchased some gylcerine to put on the rubber after I put it on the glass and will put it on some carpet or on my lap and tap away gently with a rubber mallet.

Well, I chose the carpet on the bench and it is now on, after tapping away slowly.

Thanks again for the all the replies and to get knowledge from others makes it a lot easier to attack something knowing you won't stuff it up, hopefully.

Also fitted a passenger side mirror as it didn't have one, I never knew that there was a nut already welded inside the door for another mirror until I pulled out the quarter window, and that made it a lot easier. It must be for L/H drive.
Now I can see what is creeping up that side.

NITRO, I wouldn't even know where to get some, but thanks for the safety thought, the only nitro I like is the funny cars.
