I've got the original high backs recovered and ready to go but prefer low backs.
In my eyes legal because of the model year. I think that mine is 7th month and can't find info when they went high back.
Did the std bug go high back as well?

major model changes always occurred in August (8th month/ of the relevant VW year So possibly the previous Aug,

I like the old school look of lowbacks too but I hate the thought of whiplash which is why my '68 now has highback seats.
It is usually a requirement that you are not allowed to modify a vehicle so it no longer complies with the ADR's that it complied with when new. But I am in Vic and you are in Qld so may be different up north
