56 Oval

Hi

I just bought this 56 Oval, I found it in a driveway abut 10 ks from my house, I used to see it under a tarp but a few weeks ago the tarp blew of so I saw it was an Oval. Funny thing is two forum members regularly drive past the house where it was. Not sure what colour to paint it, thinking a US colour Capri Blue. So I will get it back on the road some nice wheels and a little bit lower

It has been modified a little,
1600 single port motor
later synchro trans
adjustable front beam
KMac front sway bar
4 stud Beetle front disc brakes and Type 3 rear drums
the dash has holes in for gauges, a tacho and fuel gauge, not sure if I will fill this in or not

I'm sure you will do it justice, whatever direction you take. 36hp or something a little more lively. Keep it stock looking, nice choice of colour.

Thanks Brian, I will see what the 1600 single port is like, its a Type 3 case so I assume its 1600, it has a Holley Bugspray on it, yuk

My son has donated some wheels from his Jap wheel collection, he has about 60 pairs, all in 15 inch. I will get the bolt pattern on the Beetle changed to 4x114.3 and have suitable sized lips put on the centres.

I had no keys fro the car so I went to St George Locksmiths in Rockdale and he blanks that he cut to suit my locks

OK, car is stripped, panels are at the panel beater, just waiting on the blaster now as I want him to blast the area around the brake master cylinder reservoir and the inside the grills under the back window, Im pretty sure I will paint it a US colour Capri Blue

went for a drive up and down the driveway before I pulled the motor out.

I found a few stupid things that have been done to this car, it has Type 3 rear brakes, someone fitted them with the handbrakes cables entering the backing plate at the rear, the new exhaust was fitted without heat riser blank offs and no fibre rings on the J pipes and the generator was fitted 90 degrees out

I saw a Subaru the other day in this colour, I think it would look good on the oval, sometimes old paint formulas dont mix correctly with modern tinters

Hi

Car is at the panel beater now.

My rear guards needed to much work so I went next door to H&M Ferman and bought some new 40HP rear guards. The holes for the taillights are in a different position on the 40HP rear guards, does anybody have a accurate measurement on the tail light holes for snowflake taillights?

The guards that came with with car had welded and re drilled holes, nothing is worse than taillights not in the original position

As usual the panel beater has some nice cars in the shop, there was an old Rolls, a 3 wheel BMW, a R35 Skyline and an AMG convertible

VW oval, R35 and BMW 3 wheeler nice cars. The AMG mass produced " badge "for old guys and hairdressers with too much money and no driving skills. The RR , depends if it is a real one or overpriced BMW. Many BMW collectors try to deny the existence of the 3 wheeler. Anyway I'm sure the workmanship should be excellent and choice of colour is spot on. (even if not a VW code)

Is that Subaru colour the same as the wrx that also wears either that code or a very close match?

Cool
"hyper blue" comes up on a quick google search for light blue wrx

Yes looks better in the flesh, I had eyed that colour off with the daughter when they came out

We spotted a very similar
hue on another brand that had a bit more vintage/pascal feel
