I've run a Century 58EBMF with a Wosp Starter Motor on a type 1 1776cc engine at 9.9:1 compression with no issues.
Hope that helps.

You can get a 'Cranky kit' which adapts a subaru starter motor for use on a VW, I used to need two batteries to turn over the 1916 when I had it, but that kit spun it over way quicker with one smaller sized battery. Paul from steelart customs should be able to help you out.

It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!
