Extractors
OK, the reason the muffler and tail pipe is so low on the new Type 3 is because it has extractors.
The car runs brilliantly and gets a good speed up.
How much more petrol does a car use having these on?
I'm sure I will start a debate happening here, but are they worth keeping on (it does look ugly though)

Shouldn't use any more petrol - in fact, you should get a slight increase in economy. The usual advice on fitting extractors is that you should
go up one size in your main jets, but the type 3 seems to work quite well without it.

Someone told me yesterday that they do use more petrol. It did seem fine today on fuel, I'll watch and see.
How do I improve the look from behind? |

Bit of a prob: there are (or were,)extractors designed to tuck up under a type 3, but as far as I know, they produce less power than a stock exhaust.
If you've got the bucks, or a talented and capable friend, you could do the old tuck the muffler beside the tranny trick...

How much power would I loose changing it back to standard exhaust?
I'll sit on it a while, have spent enough on car for now, but I can still think about options, it doesn't cost to plan ahead. |

If you get people, Particulary those with cameras, to stand closer it wont be as noticeable. Reversing into your driveway and carparks and generally
stick to driving at night.
These are the best suggestions I can offer since my mechanical knowledge is limited. These are all relatively cheap options I've realised too.

Sorry so long to reply: The peak power you will lose going back to a stock exhaust would not be great probably 2-4HP, the great benefit of a good
extractor system is the gain throughout the rev range and especially at about (usually) 2-2500rpm - which you'll probably realise is where you
need it most. As for it's visibility: the police shouldn't care, as extractors are legal unless they create undue noise, and the minimum
ground clearance for your car is (from memory) 10cm. For the rest - most people think extractors look cool on anything.

Well they are not noisy and once that wiring is gone it should look neater at the back.
Must admit it has a bit of power on an open road which is great for a long trip. It holds the road well to in winds, less tiring on a long trip.
Looks like I have me a great car for taking a holiday in Sweet |

Jen, keep the extractors until they need replacing, then go stock is my suggestion. Yes the extractors do sit lower usually, but yours seems to be
even lower than mine.
Don't cut the wiring out straight away, I'd like to have a look and see if we can either hide it or make the visible bits removable. That
way you can still tow if ever you need to. :thumb
Are you bringing it over for a visit soon?

Thought for a minute that you had left town. Have you been out in the shed?
Yep I can bring him down for a visit. Next three weekends are volunteering and cruising. After that?

Feeling guilty when I leave Bel home. Had better keep the tow gear, maybe I can hook on a big trailer and take Bel along for a ride

Nice t3 have not seen one in that colour before.but the exhaust is horrible!Try finding a local muffler place that will make a new flange off
extractors angled up a bit more and a smaller muffler(baffled hot dog) my t3 is 1972 and at the range of photo you can't even see it

I had trouble with the flange on my extractors because the plates they use to bolt the muffler assembly to the extractors are too thin and bend,
allowing leaks between the bolts. I took it down to the local exhaust place and he cut the old one out and replaced it with a two-bolt 10mm plate
flange assembly for $20.
