hesitates at full throtle - SOLVED

A new development increasingly worse

eg going up on ramp to freeway flat out building up speed then it starts to die as if im running out of petrol.
will run at idle - and after a while will go full throtle again.

im thinking fuel filter although i only replaced it last week - its night so i cant do a check right now.
if not filter then maybe fuel pump although it has only had about 10 months use from new.

any clues folks would be appreciated

vehicle is 72 S bug
Engine is a 1600 tp
Carbie is dual throat 40 dcnf
Petronics electronic points
New GT40 coil

thanks

I would be checking the fuel pump pressure, if thats ok check the filter for dirt,
you may have got a gut load of dirty fuel?

filter clear - presure from fuel pump is more a pulsing driblle than a presurised squirt

fuel pump hasgood presure when i first start watching it then it reduces to a pulsing dribble

would i be right - it need to be replaced (it is one of those non-servicable ones)

make sure the fuel tank vent is not blocked. As fuel is sucked out air must get back in. If the vent is blocked then the pump will not be able to suck fuel through for high demand like accelerating hard on the freeway.
Maybe why it goes good again after stopping for a bit. Vaccum in the tank subsides.

what dave said. there's a filter in the tank, which gets blocked by all sorts of shite that doesn't burn all that well. like leaves, twigs, hair, blue metal...
funny thing is, these things come straight outta the bowser. scary.
DO NOT REMOVE THIS FILTER!!!!!

theres only one way to fix fuel problems start at the front and work to the rear.

Good point Dean... I had a Vent problem a few years ago in my type 3... It was blocked completely and this make the problem even worse on a hot day.

Make sure the tank filter is clean and good,... I also use a small plastic throw away filter on the outlet side of fuel line before it goes into the pump.

Problem solved - thanks to those who helped

pulled out the tank and rinsed it several times - bad bowser i suspect - heaps of flakey black stuff

Cleaned the tank filter

Still no joy

cleaned the filter in the carbie where the fuel line goes in - lots of fine granules.

still no joy

replace inline filter

still no joy

Finally replaced the fuel pump.

yey team it goes again.

thanks every one
