Why would you need a gearbox oil cooler?

Manual or Auto??
If it's a manual would a thermo fan blowing over the fins of the GB do what you want?
If it's an Auto, not sure, but have heard of it being done before.

Hi guys,
The GB is an auto.
the reason for the oil cooler is, the main prob with conversions is the increased GB oil temp when the car is in traffic and in gear or when people do linelockers etc, which causes clutchpacs to slip and burn out, the guy who supplied the adaptor is an off road specialist but is involved with manuals mostly and he said some of the off-road guys use them so he thought it would be a good idea (better being safe then sorry), unfortunately he doesn’t do GB repairs, and as you know the kombi GB oil is not externally cooled.
Thanks

If that's the case it's a matter of tapping into an oil line and run it through a cooler.
I suppose the question you need answered is where to tap in!!
Sorry I can't help on that one :(

I am sure this priblem came up before, on an air cooled auto there is no where to tap for cooler.
You need to get an auto from a water cooled T3 van, they have a cooler from the factory, that uses the engine coolant to cool the oil, you could use the outlets from that to hook up a normal cooler.

i suspect that it would not be neccessary unless you intend to race or tow loads over 1 tone. Rgat is the case with most modern cars anyway, plus the hassle of tapping the case (requiring teardown) and the fitting of a radiator and fan, plus a pump of some variety. I'd definatly think long and hard about the cost/benifit.
