Great specs

Wouldn't that set-up be awesome in a sleeper! Bit hard to hide the radiators though.

Great car, good thinking mounting the radiators on the wing. Might want to think about some wheelie bars tho, all that weight with great traction I think your going to do a few. Yeehaa:thumb

Not sure exactly (I am sure someone on this forum will be able to correct me though).

I think its about a 12.0 flat, by a bloke in W.A with a 12A turbo in a white bug.

Having said that, I know of a 74 1303 with a supercharged 2.1 wasserboxer making big hp that should be coming close to those numbers too.

So, can anyone set us straight ? Who does hold the crown ?

A freind has run 11.2 @ 123 mph in an all steel (except for rear guards)full bodied beetle with 1835cc.
This car is currently being rebuilt with a massive weight reduction and about a 50% power increase.
Once this car gets down the track, I think that he will be the one that everybody will be chasing.
And it is fully street registered and was/will be street driven regularly.

Thats more like it. A Volkswagen Bodied car (ie. Type1/2/3 etc) that runs a aircooled Volkswagen Engine and is fully legally registered on the road, that's what the "fastest legal street registered VW" means to me.

Don't get me wrong, i'm only a mild purist , don't mind the car at all, but the "fastest street beetle" should be running VW running gear. Am I wrong?:o

True, true. I agree that the "Fastest Street registered Beetle" to be pure should be the fastest aircooled one. But then its not really the fastest registered beetle then is it ?

Two separate classifications - fastest aircooled registered beetle, and fastest registered beetle outright.

Maybe I should start a new topic ......

Love your car, I have a Mazda Rotary in mine, also trying be different.

The fastest street registered bug that I know about (here in the USA) runs 10.06 @135

He has a TO4 turbo'd 2332cc engine, full steel body (no fiberglass!!!) and was recently featured in Hot VW's Magazine. I have a video of him on my website in the downloads section. Check it out, he is racing a blown, nitroused, big block camero...and wins! :o

Porsche gearboxes....

I had a quick look into this, before I realised EXACTLY how much money I am already spending on my house and wedding :)

AFAIK there are 2 prosche gearboxes - 901/2 and 915 styles that are most commonly converted into beetles. Swan porsches in Perth had a 901 (mid 60's to early 70's) for $2600 not rebuilt, and a 915 (mid 70's to mid 80's) for about $3500.

The G50 sounds like it is from a later model - hence $4000 to $7000 is probably correct.

You do realise that the shape of the beetle body generates lift above about 160kmh ? be careful your bug doesnt take off !!!!!!

I also saw that up at Nambucca 3 years ago now. It was awesome out on the track, not the best handling as you would imagine but a great sound and fun to watch. In fact I think that first picture is one I took and from my Wild VW's site. The guy that owned it back then was trying to get it registered from what I remember. Hopefully you won't have too many problems and end up with a great street car, going to fix up the welding on the chop ;)

Cheers

I would say then that you will be known as the guy who actually followed through on it and got it registered. Laurie has been going to register it 4 years ..

It might be the car that laurie built, but it's your chance to make it the car Reub refined. If you follow through on your plans it will be a great car. Maybe a colour change will stop so many people recognising it as Laurie's ;)

I think the second and third pics are the ones I took.
There are more pics on my website under crazy cars
http://www.offroadvw.net/bajawes/

As I have said many times before Reub, good luck with it

A standard WRX does around 14.8s

The fastest in aust that I have seen are around 10 flat. Maybe high 9's by now.

Respect to the fella that built it but sounds like you have your own share of work ahead of you!!
I'd love to see it in action...
Wish i hadda just saved and fitted up an ej20t into my bug to begin with..:(
Oh well..
Hey do you know there is tons more you can do to get waaaaaaaaaaay more power outta that engine?
If its still relatively stock that is...
To start with there are stroker kits avaible - up to 2.6 litres!!!!
Then there is bigger/hi flowed turbos, yadda yadda, etc etc..
Got a blow off valve on there? I'd have one so freaking loud itd scare pedestrians!!

Top car!!:D

An enviable machine for to and from work I reckon. Wouldn't suit me on the weekends as I'm sure the sand and sticks would mount up slowing my way.

Never been a fan of flames though. I like the blended colours such as the front white going through a 100 shade of blues to black at the back. Looks like its white hot at the front and the paint is burning off. My 2 cents if I had a mad ride like that.

Would love to hear it's note and make sure you post well in advance if you coming down for an east coast cruise.
