T3 Caravelle to Golf VR6 conversion

Although I will be beaten by a friend in Adelaide to the completion of one of those I thought I let people know about this conversion as well.

It's based on the 2.8 VR6 Golf III engine and an engine adapter which John Sherman in Queensland build for me.
The conversion requires some reasonably major modifications to the engine lid.
The engine basically sits upright in the van and hence need lifting the lid by around 100mm. The front of the old engine deck (above the gearbox) also requires some mods to clear the engine.

Engine mounts I've chosen are the Euro/US Diesel mounts but it's easy to make your own as a friend has.

I am ready to bolt it in soon and start the wiring.

If there is an interest in this I'll continue this post.

Note the pic is showing the early stages of my friends car.

hi busman.
plenty of us can't wait to see Michael's bus on the road.
for those who don't know, the guy primarily behind this conversion is the mastermind of other works of art such as a wrx powered T3 and his own V5 driven T3.
can we please see some pics of these. :):)

I have the same project on my hands i have bought a VW combi shell 1985-1992 model and have a VR6 2.8 L engine at the moment.

I would like assistance with the conversion as i need to know what gearbox would be suitable and anything else i would need eg. adapters...
