SC/DC Tray and Gate Resto

Hi Folks,

The gates need a bit of attention on the SC, nothing major just a bit of Rust on the usual spots that needs to be checked.

Also the tray could do with a lick of paint.

Does anyone have any experience in doing this and the best paint to use on the tray ??? Can you get a rubberised type of compund to paint on that doesnt scratch up so bad ?

Any info appreciated.

Cheers.

Ah yes MArine carpet theres an idea !!!

I had a Commodore ute in a previous life that had a nice Rubber mat in the tray one of those recyled tyre jobs, but Im doubting I could get one for the SC and besides it would probably cost more thatn the ute itself !

As Byron bus said.
There are a number of good spray on rubber materials, but moisture will get under them eventually and you won't know it's rusting until it's too late.
My brother has made up ply wood boards to lay in the tray (SC, T3) and has worked very well.

Paint it in two pack or whatever you want to use, paint though...and get some marine carpet cut to fit in the tray and throw it in, take it out every week when you wash the ute then throw it back in...too easy aint gunna rust in a week...dont attach it, if folks up in Brissy will steal it then bolt it down with stainless fittings and remove every few weeks for a clean of the tray...they will flog anything in byron gto fund their grubby drug and dirt infested lives but they havent knocked off the marine carpet yet...

Here's rubber matting in a DC from the DOVW. It was purchased from Clark's, $200 apparently.

I also had some aluminium panels bolted to the inside of the gates so that things rolling around in the tray dont damage the gates....it was a bad design where damage inside shows on the outside.....

im looking around at the moment, and you can get textured waterproof scratch resistant underbody paint, i was thinking of using it in the engine bay, wheel arches and front floor (below matt) would this sort of thing work?
