Rebuilding splitbus steering boxes
Guys,
Few people chasing splitbus steering boxes in the for sale section. Here in Oz we do tend to replace worn bits with 'good' 2nd hand units
rather than rebuilding or reconditioning. Lotsa bits getting hard to find now and time we looked at saving and using this stuff rather than throwing
it away.
You can reco splitbus steering boxes (unless the worm and groove is totally and absolutely stuffed...)
They have ball bearings in them set up just like a bicycle headstem 8mm from memory - buy em loose at any bearing shop. If the worm is too worn to
adjust to spec you can have it hard chromed?
Then you may need to get it machined and a bush turned up but its still going to be better and cheaper than what a used box might cost?
The seal is a standard seal (again buy at any bearing/seal shop) I have the number at home and will dig it out and post if you want...).
Please don't throw old 'worn' boxes away
without checkin them out. They are getting too hard to find to lose rebuildable
boxes.
