Bizzare Ebay Auction

I witnessed the end of a ebay auction today that must rate as the electronic equivalent to customer frenzy at a Myer sale. This item, a replica Porshe Speedster, jumped up in price about $3 grand in less than a minute and a half before the auction ended. The price was changing quiker than I could refresh the page. It had been sitting on about $7k for a couple of days.
I bailed out at $6k, had been the highest bidder for 2 days. Pissed off. Got to drive it tho. :cry

Started something up in me now, so I think building one of these little babies is very much on the cards in the very near future.

How frustrating!!:(

I've found that with auction sites as well, people seem to sit back silently until the final minutes

Yeah, standard sort of ebay bidding. Hold off until the last second, not sure if that is to keep the bidding price down?
That was a good buy, what did it drive like? Do you know the manufacturer?

Speedster 356.
It drove like a VW. Was built on a 70 ball joint pan with swing axles.

The seller didn't know the maker, just that it was built in Adelaide.

I would like to have a chat with you at some about how you go about building one of these. Going to start collecting all the mechanical bits over the next 6 months.

Still not bad for the $$'s. Under $10k for something different.
He said 1800 - was it a 1776 T1 or a T4 donk.?
Did it have Webers or anything?

Hard to tell from the piccie - but leather and that - i dont think you would come within a bull's roar to build one for under 10 G's

Yep blue it had webers, remote oil filter, he wasn't sure on the actual engine size.
Leather interior thru out. Soft top with side curtains.

And yeah, you are right you couldn't build it for under 10k.

Ebay auction

Who bought the speedster as I noticed that it did not have the porsche or speedster script on the front guards. I have some new ones that I purchased for mine from Stottards in Colorado. Kept them when I sold the car. The new owner may be interested. volma1

Not sure really, there is a bit of feed back about the winning bidder. Looks like some sort of trader to me. Probably see it for sale again soon.

All I know was that unfortunatly it wasn't me. If I had have dropped 10k on this thing, my wife would have arranged a slow and painful death for me. Reason enough to walk away :(

You have a very sweet woman by your side, smart move:) (a woman's perspective)

I would imagine a lot of trade people bid at auctions and have it down pat:(

resellers

I think you will be seeing it relisted again at a much inflated price, that sort of thing has been happening in the states as they seem to be a fast selling item. Lots of resellers there. Yeah there is no way you could build for that price.

Pictures

I emailed the guy before things got out of hand. Sounded good for the price although I didn't like the fit of the front bonnet. It sold just shy of $10k. He emailed me some pics if your interested:-

and the nearside

I quite liked it. Give it a dose of silver paint, and a better set of wheels, and you'd have a nice looking replica.

Cheers
