Fuel Consumption (whats yours)

Been checking the fuel consumption on my 65 Splitty with a 1600SP motor in it. It takes about 35litres of fuel and does a touch over 200 miles on a full tank. My reckoning is that its doing about 26mpg or 11.05km/l. The bus is a devon camper with a full wood interior, engine stock with reduction gears etc.

I'd be interested in seeing what other people are getting especially bay windows with 1600cc and 1800/2000cc. I'd also be interested in seeing what an IRS bus gets in the way of fuel economy.

Cheers

Steve

P.S if you want to convert from mpg to km/l or from litres to gallons just type in your calculation in google search i.e 25mpg to km/l, and google will automatically convert it for you.

Steve, funny you bought that topic up now, I just checked my fuel economy in my split ute after the trip to the shootout.

Fully loaded with swap stuff and towing a Beetle on a trailer, it got 23 MPG, not bad I thought considering my Caravelle only gets 18 MPg when towing. I did go fairly easly on it though.

Barry,
I get 22-25 mph out of the Caravelle, it's an auto 2.1

I am going to pull the injection off and stick on a progressive Weber kit, that will fix it!! should do 120mph and get 50 MPG then.

Hey did you ever see the progressive weber kit they sold for a beetle, It was called the "progressive induction system" or PIS for short.
Very suitable name.:D

Damn, only 25 miles an hour? Do you wear a hat while driving? :D:P:D;)]

Steve, I get 15 litres/100kmh from my '75 kombi with twin carb 1800, but that's loaded with lots of efficiency killing accessories including my sunvisor and full-length roofrack, and I tend to sit on 100+ kmh when running around locally. For long trip I tend to sit between 90-100, which helps the economy a bit. :)

fuel consumption

Ahhhhh fuel economy, my second favorite subject after ........um, use your imagination. I'm quite fanatical about how much fuel I use because I do over 70000k's a year which equals a lot of $$$. I used to get about 450k's from a 1600 tp in a bay dual cab,it dropped to 420k's with a 1835 with single weber (40 DCNF) but was worth it for the extra grunt. Reasonable for a 55l tank. The shitbox triton 2.6 I've been using can only manage 500 from a 69l tank. W hich is why I'm going to fit a TDI engine to my 70' Dual cab. That should give me a range of between 1100-1200k's from my custom 100l tank. It'll make the same power as the 1835 with twice as much torque. Plus I can brew my own diesel from vegetable oil at home!!! A win -win situation. Anyone found a TDI engine for me yet?:bounce

I haven't had a chance to really test the V6 Baja yet, but on the way to Valla I reckon I was getting 32-35mpg, and around town I seem to be getting around 28mpg.

The 1915 used to be around 28mpg city or highway, didn't seem to make a difference.

My 1776 with twin kadrons was good. It got around 38mpg on the highway with an Lbug gearbox and big tyres (so about 2500rpm on the highway).

Sorry bloke, there's a subtle difference between "flogged the crap out of it" and "revved the ring out of it". :P

Eurekas look like they should go fast and even though I tend to drive it fairly hard, ('cause it's fun :D) rarely does it see over 4200 rpm because all it does is make more noise anyway.

BTW, it's the second one from the right in Marks photo.

1800 '74 bus:

On the long highway trip I got under 11l/100km (just), with a roofrack and visor, doing 80-90km/h mostly (about 330litres for just over 3000km).

In town it seems to be around 16 l/100km, but might be a little lower. And she has been having problems (solex's).

I was happy with the country run fuel use rate.

EDIT: Oh - here's another relevant thread for kombis: http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=2876#pid178541

I have a 75 kombi van, stock standard 1800 with the cupbds, sink, stove etc and i normally get 22mpg and in the 68 bug, also stock standard, 1500 engine, i'm getting 32mpg. The bus is in need of a service, but once done, i'm getting mid to late 20's mpg. I drive both at about 80 - 90 kmph.
Living in the country, all my driving is 35 km + just to do the shopping and anything social, so i guess it may be a bit twisted in that i'm doing straight driving, ie no traffic lights, and its a half decent distance.
