fuel pump blues
My 2L fuel injected 76 Kombi stalls in hot weather. Have heard that can be due to the fuel pump being too close to the engine, and once it reaches a
certain temperature, it just stalls. Problem solves if you let the car cool down.
Have heard that if you move the fuel pump the problem is fixed.
Anyone know anything about this?
Its a right pain, and i need to get it fixed, but before i shell out $$ thought I'd see what others think.

Is it a stock setup?
If so check your fuel pressure. If it's low then check the fuel pump, pressure ragulator and filter. The stock set-up should be pretty got in
relation to positioning of the pump/inlet/return lines etc that can affect poor running when hot (unless the motor is overheating).

Just to close this discussion off, i recently had the fule pump moved away from where it was (close to the engine heater pipes) to a new location
about halfway along the underside of the kombi.
after driving it in Wednesday's 35 degrees, it worked fine....no more stalling.
seems the problem is fixed. cost about $200 to get it moved, including parts. was a good investment, cos noone wants to be stuck on the side of the
road when its too hot (or as one friend does - he doesnt drive when its too damn hot cause he knows what will happen!

yeh, as far as i know it was a stock pump in the stock position. the guys who fixed it for me said they had heard of it before, but only on the odd
kombi.....not sure what the issue is, but sure am glad there is no more sitting on the side of the highway waiting for it to cool down!
i've only heard of it affecting fuel injected ones........
