rear wheel bearing replacement

Found the noise problem today. The rear outer bearing had cracked into three pieces when I removed it. I'm having some trouble removing the bearing from the housing. Are there any good tech articles on this subject anywhere? Ive looked on the forum and didnt find anything usefull.

If its a 71 then its a IRS rear end. Take off teh axle first then you can knock out the stub axle and get a better swing at the bearing, from the inside with a long punch.

Very unusual fro one of these to break ??? Wasnt if lubricated properly

There was plenty of grease, the inner bearing and spacer came out easily with the circlip removed but the outer bearing is in very tight and Im afraid of damaging the housing trying to get it out. Do you drift it out from behind?

No the stub axle pushes from the out side to the inside thats why you have to remove the drive axle with CVs... so it will push in. the circlip is a bit of a buggar some times.
