KG vs Beetle

G'day All

Can anyone tell me how interchangable KG and Beetles are......

- Does beetle engine fit into a KG
- Does a Beetle gearbox fit into a KG (IRS)
- Are the KG pans same as early beetle??
- are the front beams same i.e K&L front end
etc

May have come across a very cheap but in good condition KG through family friend but am half way through body of resto for beetle. I love the KGs and wondered if I could just simple use my restored pan, gearbox, and engine directly into KG shell??

If I can't use whole pan maybe just front beam?

Where KG's IRS and/or can they be converted?

Hi Brad,
You did'nt say what year but the
Beetle engine fits no worries.
Same with gearbox.
KG pan is wider.
Front beam should be a bolt-in too.
As to rear suspension: depends on year;
I think they went IRS about the same time as Beetle but swing axle can be converted.

how cheap is cheap? (just curious!)

G'day Andy

$500 or ther abouts, supposedly it has been sitting under a tarp for a year or so but was running when bought, seals are all OK but hole in floor pan but has a replacement piece.

Getting a little ahead of myself, as I haven't seen it yet and I'm not sure on year.

How can you tell what year is what???

What are some rough ideas of prices for what they are worth i.e 62-66 bad cond = $0, little rust =$2000, great condition $10,000etc

Andy I think we've met did you by my 58 beetle engine???

Cheers

yes,thats me.

I'd grab it for that price, almost no matter what its like.

As to the age, get the chassis number & I can tell you.
Swing axle: obviously early model.
Larger tail lights & fatter bumpers the newer you get!

Even a crap one could cost 3-4k!

Sorry Guys....I thought it was too good to be true.

Wasn't actually a KG but a Type 3 Rally Ed Notch/Fastback.

What a damn shame... a dream find!
Might still be worth a check out.
