i bought a hewlett packard hp812 recently. it is a 4 megapixel but with 7 times zoom. it will allow you a variety of qualities so that you can take
anything from a photo for framing or just something to send, but on top of that you can have a short video with sound.... which can be very
interesting.
like anything it depends on what you want to spend. but my personal advice is get the most you can afford. then there hopefully should be no
regrets.
if you want more info look it up on hteir site.

re digital camera
This is the best 2 megapixel camera in my opinion;
CANON POWERSHOT IXUS V2 DIGITAL CAMERA
Resolution: 2.1 million pixels (CCD), 2.0 million pixels (image).
Lens: Autofocus 35-70mm f/2.8-4.0 (35mm eqv.), 2.5 x – Max. of 5 x zoom when combined with optical zoom.
Bonus: One Free 32MB Compact Flash
You can get it for $729 from gadgets.com.
However, a friend of mine got one for $6?? so shop around or do a deal. Make sure you get the 32 MB card.
The camera has a steel body and lots of great functions like movie mode with sound plus black and white mode etc. We used to have a Canon Powershot G1
at work. It got used almost everyday, took great shots and never had a problem.

Been more than happy with our Canon PowerShot A20 which we have owned for about 12 months now. It's been superceded which theoreticaly means that
things could have only gotten better and since we've had no qualms about our A20 that should a good things. All pics from Boris' Picnic Day
etc that I've posted ahve all been taken with that camera
If you need the specs refer to http://203.111.45.57/manuals/a20_camera_manual.pdf

I've got the Canon A30, which is one step up from the A20 and has basically been superceded by the Ixus. It has around 2 Megapixels which I find
is more than adequate. Anything more and you'll need some major memory for it. As it stands I use a couple of 64Mb CF cards which will fit
anything between 90-140 photos each, plus I have the 8Mb and 32Mb cards that came with it.
I didn't think that its 15 second video ability was going to be useful but I find that I use it all the time. The only problem with this is that
each one takes up 3.67MB of space on the CF card.
I've found this to be a top little camera, and I'm even thinking of buying a second one (for work, again) next year. If it is lacking
anything at all it would be in the zoom department, although it was on par or better than everything else in its price range (6 months ago, $730).
There are several add-on lenses available which I have got, but I'm waiting on the lens adapter for it, which I should have tomorrow or Monday
(they sent me the wrong one) so I'll let you know what I think of them.
As for the photo quality, I can print out photos in A4 size and find they are exceptional. I wouldn't personally go for higher resolution unless
you are a professional.

on the other end of the market...approx $130 all plastic Star Cam mines about 0.9 Megapixel 640 x 480.. Fine for pics for Web. You notice when
printing out Photos from the images that it isnt too good for photo album work. Economical on Batteries. Affordable and at the time wasnt too big in
the software dept for my computer.

Digital Cameras
Well, I can't afford a good One yet.... but have looked at MANY MANY sites,,, and the Best IMHO are FUJI,Sony and Canon. Make sure You buy one
with CCD which is the Best.. and Digital Zoom Normal Zoom doesn't work as good as with a "normal"
camera.. also look at the Speed of the camera- will it take photos of moving objects - like ASA400 film will.?-some cameras list the speed as
"normal" speeds like: ASA100-200-400-600-1200 etc...and a flash is essential ... I believe ASA400 is the Minimum speed!!!! as in
"normal cameras" otherwise it is a "still Camera" like My $70-00 Web Camera. Naturally, You will be looking at the Mega Pixels 2
or 2.1 is common minimum... which is probably OK for small photos. and then there is the Memory....
FUJI have an excellent website and Canon & Sony probably do too. I have also noticed that Kodak has some good featured cameras at reasonable
prices. I wouldn't buy a stnd camera from them, but their Digitals aren't too bad for the money. I think I'll wait till I can afford a
Fuji,Sony or Canon Powershot A40 .... I hope this helps with Your BIG Decision......
:thumb:o:o and You will be able to take hundreds of pics of VWs at Valla next year...:thumb:thumb

Sam' I'd go for the Canon IXUS if you can affort the extra. Its really compact and it has movies with sound. Seen em down here in Melb for
$779 from the Good Guys (local chain) Not sure if its the exactly the same model.

I did a lot of research before buying mine.
I got the fuji S602Zoom its a 3.1megapixel with software interpolation to take it to 6 meagpixel although this feature only really give a
4.5megapixel-ish
it gives you the option of using both CF and smartmedia.
Sorry to disagree with 68AutoBug but you really need to avoid digital zoom. it isn't really a zoom as all it does is expand the frame you capture
thus your 2 megapixel camera can becom a 1.2 or .9 depending on how much you zoom!
the fuji 602has 6x optical zoom and a 4x digital and retails for about $1699.00 yes I know its expensive but you would expect to pay $2000+ for
different brand with the same features.
I did my reasearch from these sites
http://www.steves-digicams.com/
(No relation)
and
here
http://www.dpreview.com/
Also I own an IT company and one of my suppliers sells some brand of cameras give me a shout if your interested - my sell on the Fuji is $1527.80 inc
GST.
BTW the price on the canon ixus from gadget.com is cheaper than my supplier sells it for so that looks like a really good deal.

Hi,
That reminds me I had terrible trouble with Compact Flash I I returned 3 256meg card to my supplier before we found out that all brands aren't
fully compliant / compatible with the CF standard. (and they only stocked this brand - "APACER" )
I would recomend that you take your camera to the shop and try the memory in it before you buy. Some shops wouldn't allow me to do this, so I
kept on walking.
If you want to be certain then buy KODAK memory it comes with a 5 year warranty and they also guarantee compatibility.
I was suprised to find that Kodak was also a pretty good price

thanks again guys
i hav found the canon ixus V3 to be quite a good deal, only slighter more expensive than the V2 with better features.
i do understand about digital zoom, its not much good at all if u dont even hav any optical zoom.
that fuji sounds good but about twice as much as i can coiuld afford, i'd like to keep it under 1000 at least. and i dont think 6 megapixel will
be neccessary for wat im doing.
anyway, i will keep doing my homework, thanks for the great sites u hav suggested...
