Ive read differing torque values but the one i use is 316 Ft Lbs. Never had a problem with an axle nut or flywheel comming loose.

get 1.5m pole and jump on it with a 36mm socket on the other end. the cotter pin should prevent the nut coming off in the event of not tightening it up enough.

My Bentley manual for 1970 - 1979 beetle/super/ghia states 217 ft/lb for the brake drum to shaft slotted (castle) nut, but I have also read else where 250 ft/lb
