jacking kombi up to get motor out


Exactly how high do I need to jack the back of the kombi to get the motor out?

What's the best (i.e. easiest and safest) way of doing this?

Jack it as high as the engine..... and a few inches for ease.

Ramps are good if you have them. That way you only need the jack to lower the engine.

Thanks... but how high is that? Like, how many inces/cm does the bumper need to be off the ground?

I use jack stands and hydraulic jacks

I put the van/car on stands down as low as i can - so you can easily work on top or below
Also you dont have to raise and lower the motor on a jack as much.
Once you have released and lowered the motor to the ground jet the jack under a suitable spot as forward as you can and raist the shit out of it.
Once it is clear of the motor slide it out and lower the bus/car onto the stands again



Well - that is how i do it

Guessing a good 2 foot?:jesus

Dunno - once the motor is sitting on the ground you will see what clearance yo need.
Just move the jack further up the front and the arse will go higher

A normal trolley jack will do easily

I was able to get our 1800 motor out on my own by driving the bus up on ramps. The motor dropped down with about an inch to spare above the carbies. I took the aircleaner and to air induction tubes off, and the carby idle cutout switch on the side of the carby just to be safe so it didnt catch on the edge and break.

Took about 1.5 hrs and I left the gearbox in, but dropped it down a bit by taking the top two bolts out.

I needed two jacks to do this, one to hold the gearbox and one to drop the motor. I used a board under the motor to help stabilise it.
