VW Factory Pics - POST EM HERE

I enjoy seeing old photos of VW's on the assembly line looking all fresh and new.

If you have any good factory shots, post them here so we can all have a look.

I'll start this off with what I believe to be a Clayton factory shot!

Has anyone got that book in Volksfolks post:- Here is a review I found of it. It looks like it would be interesting......

Volkswagen : A Week at the Factory

In 1949, when Volkswagens first appeared on their highways, Americans took to the peculiar little car immediately. Small, funny-looking, and functional, the unpretentious Volkswagen soon came to represent a way of life. In 1953, photographer Peter Keetman spent a week at the VW factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, and emerged with a collection of remarkable images that tell the story of the creation of the Volkswagen. Seventy-one striking duotone photographs not only illustrate the factory production process, but also transform the popular car into a work of art. From parts - piles of steel sheets, stacks of gleaming chrome bumpers, mudguards, roofs, crankshafts, and camshaft gears - to production - body assembly, welding, and painting, the images in this book capture the civic spirit of the people's car. Also included in this unique volume are three essays: the first details the actual design and production of the Volkswagen; the second describes the factory in post-war Germany and its effort to instill a spirit of community among the factory employees; and the third places the photographs in the context of modernist European photography. The first American edition of a highly respected European photography classic, Volkswagen: A Week at the Factory is a landmark in the history of industrial photography and a timeless look at a contemporary icon.

I gave a copy of that book to my uncle, Steve. It is a beautiful book. Lots of great artistic shots of rows upon rows of VW parts... mmmm. Nice.

Not sure where all the other pics went!

Digging through my hard disk I found these interesting Clayton pics too. They show beetles and Type 3's being painted alongside Datsuns! Not sure whats happening there, maybe the paintshop did both types of cars!

Cheers

Steve
