Is this fuct?

I accidentally dropped my generator when I was cleaning it. I landed straight onto the shaft and cracked the metal. Is this beyond repair? If so, has anyone got another 12V gennie I can buy off em?

sigh

that's what we refer to in my game as "N.F.G"
but you can apply that term to whatever you want.:(

The generator itself is probably still OK,just looks as though the bearing housing has taken a beating. If you take out the 2 screws located behind the pulley, you can remove the bearing housing and replace it.Just make sure when it is off that you check the armature shaft isn't bent and all should be good.

the side plate that is cracked doesn't have the screws, that is on the other side... can I still replace it? I fiddled with the armature shaft and doesnt seem to have any freeplay - good news perhaps?

looks like you just need the end cover bearing housing. Pull it apart n check to see if anything else is damaged make sure the armature isnt bent.

Chris I have a stuffed 12v gennie you can have for the parts if you need it. The armature is burned but the housing is all good.

I undid the two really long bolts that holds the two end plates together and the bent end pretty much fell apart... So its just hanging on by the bearings onto the shaft... Can I remove this?

hey grey, I might take you up on that offer! We'll see what happens...

yes. an ALTERNATOR.
charges at low revs, more efficient, built in voltage regulator. sounds like a great excuse to bolt one on :D

dunno... i put mine on almost 6 yrs ago..
has been fine apart from once being struck by lightning. but that'll do it. fried the inbuilt regulator. :D
so at less than 45 bucks a year i reckon it'd be worth it at 250 bucks.
