time between colours and clear ??
tomorrow im painting my bro's EH in the original colours also in acrylic and i was going to do it this way and just wanted to be sure it was the
most effficent way to do it?
roof tomorrow in fowlers ivory white
wait till next day so i can tape and paper the roof so i dont get the "other" colour on it
then after paper and masking up the white spray the gypsland green withe the 110gram of fine metalic we had added into it.
i was then either going to un mask the roof and apply the clear or wait till the next day again and do the clear over the car after the base colours
are dry ???
any other ideas would be appreciated thanks :bounce

When i used to spray my cars i would add the clear in with the last couple of coats so it was colour clear
If you spray just clear onto the car and dont block it all off it used to tend to yellow a bit thats why i added it to the colour on the last few
coats.
I dont think it would matter if you left it a day or so between coats give the paint a chance to sink n harden into the surface.
dont know if that answers your question.

Hang on give me more than a couple of hours to catch up.
If the Roof is solid white with no metallic it will not need clear. The solid colour will be glossy after cut & polish without clear.
The Gippsland green will need clear on it if it is clear over base (COB) metallic added to it. There are some metallics that can be added to clear or
to solid colour without the need for clear to be applied over the top. These are surprisingly called non-COB metallics.
I don't know which one you are adding, but you can put clear over any paint if you wish. Clearing it the next day will be fine for acrylic, just
use a tack cloth to remove any dust. Don't prepsol it or you will ruin the surface of the metallics.
So in summary. For acrylic
Solids do not have to be cleared over, but can be if you wish. They can have clear added to the colour.
Metallics COB must be cleared over.
Metallics non COB do not have to be cleared over, but can be if you wish. They also can have clear added to the colour.(usually they are very fine and
low flake content metallics)
I would not wait any longer than a day to clear over it.
Good to see another EH is going to be done up.
