I agree totally Alan, there is no set formula for the German look as there is for the cal look, performance , handling & braking is what it's all about, it doesn't matter if it's a 1952 split window beetle or a 1978 cabrio, it all works for me.
I would definantly have IRS if u are going to make all that effort, I had a swing axle bug for 6 months about 5 years ago, lucky I didn't kill myself in it!
AS for my comment on the low back seats, my thoughts are, if u don't need to have it & there is something safer to use, then why not use it? if u get hit from behind u could rip your head off I woud have thought, I also had them for that 6 month period & felt very nervous, now with my 911 porsche seats & harness I feel safer than in my wifes Vectra.
Courses for horses though:thumb
regards
Jak

Yeah, I wish I had my time over again...I would have gone IRS for sure. But I already had a heavy duty side plate and superdiff for s/a that cost a fortune to bring in from the US, so stuck with the swinger. These things happen when the focus of a project changes mid way through!!

Same with the low back seats (I wasn't having a dig at you by the way)...I was originally going for a cal-look inspire skinny front, fat rear look, but since got pursuaded by the German Look style...I love it! Some day may change seats, but having shelled out the cashola for reupholstering current ones, I'll hang onto them for a bit!

All good fun, variety is what makes the vw scene so interesting.

By the way, you have 205/40 front and 215/45 rears right Jak - happy with this? I am tossing up tyres at the moment. Most likely going to go for Falken FK451 in the above sizes.

I'm running 215/45 on the front & 225/45 on the rear, they are Falkan ST115's I highly reccomend them.

One visit from Jak to my place when I started my "Cal Look" convinced me that I'd made a mistake. At that point I set off on a journey that is still going nearly one year and many $$ later. I'm looking forward to the end result.
