to paint or not to paint my gearbox?

...that is the question...

I am intending to strip the black paint off the gearbox that I aquired.

A) should I leave it on and jsut clean it up? [protects the metal?]

B) strip off the paint and have it bare metal

C) eat cheese on crackers

I'd suggest stripping it and repainting it, but mask the ribs and details so that they retain the alloy look. :cool:

You don't have to paint it, as We don't have salt & chemicals put on our roads during the winter for the ice, which is what eats the gearboxes away in the UK & North America (plus Europe).
I painted mine red & yellow... and no, VW gearboxes don't get hot enough to blister paint... Lee

you can read this thread on how to make a gearbox look pretty

[url=http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=4657&page=2]

And you can read this one if you want to ponder the cooling effects of painting cases / gearboxs (to summarize it has virtually no effect).

VWFool, I think your 812kB avatar is a bit big and really slows the loading of any thread with your avatar. Especially for the modem people out there. You should think about changing it.
