CV's

Anyone ripped the CV's off a wrecker Kombi as replacement parts? Am I being stupid thinking about this? (naturally they'd have to be in good condition).

Are the T3 CV's pretty much standard regardless of year?

Any help would be welcome.

You may be lucky and get a couple of good ones. Obviously you have to clean and inspect them. If they have any pitting or scoring on the rollers or the race surface they are no good, some wear is OK but excessive wear is obviously no good. also the cages should have no chips or distortion.
I remove, clean and repack mine with CV grease every 20.000, I get good service life out of mine. I have used two brands, LOBRO and an Italian brand, the name of witch escapes me at the moment. I have found both to be good, with similar service life. I have a good second hand one in the Kombi as an emergency spare.
Good luck.

Split or bay?

Thanks for the response. What are you driving? Split or Bay?

Isn't that a bit of overkill to keep a complete CV as a spare in your bus? Ever had to use it?

I actually think its an excellent idea, even though I've never spat out a CV yet. :thumb The CV itself is a very small part, there's probably no need to keep the whole driveshaft in the car.
