Yep that would be me......

I am still working on the new dynamic site and have hit a few snags. It seems that catalogueing over 3000 items into some sort of logic system that works has taken me longer than I expected.

The specials will be going up again soon while I continue to play with the new site....damn technology ......

hmmmm
I've done a site with 12 000 SKUs and done a scalability demonstration of that with 49 000 SKUs for a major hardware retail chain - no problems with scaling.

Give me a yell if there's something that's hanging you up.

Prices are handy but are a pain for the dealer. If people get an old cahced version (many an isp keep proxies for months) they expect the price they see to be honoured even tho the latest version of the page may have a new price.

Which side are you on Brad?

HRmatt has it right... sometimes isp's keep the pages for months and the wrong $$ come up... keep the prices off and set up some sort of form where you can ask for a quote/price on such and such item/s and have them email you back.

I know for me if I look at 2 websites and one has prices and I can order on line and the other has not, then it is a 90% chance I will just buy the one with the price list. But I do understand your point about people seeing old prices.

Improve the DB engine and go for prices.. Most dynamic price pages do just about averything to force changes, even if you local ISP is on the cheap.. You can always refresh as well..

on line catalog with prices = the winner ??

I know, its going to be a pain having prices, but a Parts catalog with prices will help sell the goods...
and I have been checking MM every few weeks too.
You can email Mick for prices etc, but I find I will buy more if prices are shown in the catalog.
What about ALL the specials We have been missing out on... NOV-DEC-JAN-FEB-MARCH ...
Whoever gets a Catalog on line with Pricing is going to be the winner here.... Maybe Sky can Help...
I Just love going to those US sites and looking looking looking, writing down part numbers etc.. of what I want... will want!!

anyone going to the US Soon... I need more parts -- and You see all the bits that are just not available in Australia.

ok just to clarify..

I am for prices.

My time issue come from cataloguing the inventory with details, pictures etc etc

ISP refresh isn't the issue.

Ok basically the inventory control system used by Mick is very unfriendly and will not support export functions without getting it as a big ass array and splitting it up. This isn't going to happen.

What this means is that for Mick to put prices on his website he would need to run a parallel system and keep them both up to date. Take into account maybe 6 shipments a years and the movement of the Aussie Dollar and it adds up to a great deal of work.

Mick Motors turns over a great deal of stock and most days they are pretty much flat out from open to close. This doesn't leave much time to keep one system up to date let alone a sperate system.

That is what I am working on. A way in which I can do this cost effectively. Once I have the majority of the inventory catalogued and split I will upload the new site on a trial basis and once I am happy with its speed and stability I will redirect the DNS and it will replace the current site.

I am not getting into a geek argument over how to do this or how I am doing it. I realise everyone is an expert and has an opinion.

If anyone would like some work experience the feel free to contact me and I will fill you in on what needs to be done and what it pays ( bugger all)
