took out my engine today...
holy crap... it took me nearly 3 hours to take it out... (me and a mate) Everything kept on fouling on the body work - ended up taking off the engine
lid mounts, the fan shroud, the manifold, the rear and left tinware
...and Robert's ya father's brother...

ended up taking off the engine lid mounts,
were you trying to lift it out????:P
what engine is it?? the fanshroud...umm...(learning here!!!!)

It gets easier after the 2nd or 3rd time 
When you put it back in you wont have to get the tinware between the double edged rubber seal. Just lift the engine into place and leave the rubber
seal above the tinware, but make sure there is still a good seal. You can tend to damage the rubber seal by trying to get the tinware between the
upper and lower rubber flaps.

yeh, prolly get easier after the 3rd time then coz that was my second! I learnt good - IT'S BIACH! The first time, I only thing I had to take
off to remove the engine was the deck lid... oh yeh, this time, I even took off the rocker covers for clearance... got nice and oily when we tilted
the engine out and all the oil came out from the rocker tubes!
Having the engine out will hopefully help me in finding out where the fuel line is leakgn from so I can drive Belle agian pretty soon! (after a new
gearbox and another engine!)

i've done it about 6 times, it still takes me about 40mins to get it out
What i find easiest is that if I remove one of the wheels and slide the engine out sideways, my jack doesnt have much lift. |

It's all good $2.63, no offence taken dude - it was a 1200 40HP engine. I think the back body metal may have been bent outta shape a little and
thats why I had to take all the condiments off my engine before I would remove it... the fan shroud is the black semi circular thing thats attatched
to the generator... easy to take off (if the deck lid mounts weren't in the way!) only 2 bolts for the shroud and one for the generator strap and
take off the fan belt too...
Lucy for me, those dark patches aint oil... :P Yeh, its gonna be a 1600 into an oval... well, i'm waiting on the engine.. can I put 1641
P&C's onto a 1300 case?
I was considering moving it out sideways after I lowered the engine on the jack, but I ended up just tilting it backwards to clear the oil cooler on
the rear apron... easier than taking off a wheel when its jacked up!

phew!.lol.. the reason I asked is the fanhousing looks like its a semicircle, I hadn't seen that shape b4...the only experience I have had taking
an engine with all the covers/pipes/bits etc intact was when I ripped out an engine from a 64 to chop back off to make way for the cage and 1600, did
it all by ownsome.lol guess i wasn't really worried about bending anything at time.......($ 2.63 runs away and hides before the purists come
after her with big stick!!!!!)  |

Engine out in 15 mins on My own
I took My engine out last Saturday Morning, about 15 mins... on My own, having the rear apron removable, makes the job so much easier, You
really only have to watch the Large Rubber Seals either side of the engine bay.. I put it back in Saturday afternoon , another 15 minutes or so.. on
My own , but I had to get My Son to screw the top two Nuts on... while I pushed the bolts in... I had Jack stands under the 2 rear torsion bar tubes,
with the bottom of the tyres just clearing the ground.... I had to use two trolley jacks as I didn't have the first one under the centre of the
engine... it or the piece of wood must have moved.. so I used the 2nd jack to help balance the engine while I did up the two bottom bolts... I
don't envy You fellows with the smaller tighter early engine bays...

i understand ur pain, having a 1600 tp in an oval makes it very difficult to get the motor in and out, can take a few hours and its basically just
moving a centimetre here a centimetre there, even for a couple of guys, can can very very frustrating for all...

I find the easiest way is to get hte engien on teh groudn while the car is level and then jack the car up really high, then slide the engine out. It
helps having a jack with 800mm lift!!!!
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
