EJ25 quadcam "NO SCARED CAT!"
Having probs with my ej25 powered buggy. Not accelerating properly. All standard except for air filter/exhaust (cat back).
No engine faults on standard ecu diagnostics.
Any ideas?

Have you checked the simple stuff...
With the car turned off, if you push the accelerator pedal to it's limit (floor) does the throttle body go through it's full movement. To
get an EJ2x to work with the standard beetle peadl I beleive you should be useing the cruise control attachment to the throttle body as it does not
require as much movement of the cable to acctuate the butterfly.
The engine will have to re-map if you've changed the Cat back pressure, and may be in limp-home mode at the moment.
I think it's likely to be the throttle body not traveling full movement.

Check your fuel flow rate. A few people have had probs in this area.
What size pump are you using and what's the set-up?

For people reference, I have suggested by email to Pete the following;
* small negative effect at higher rpm from the restictive intake tubing, but low end power should still be good.
* possibly incorrect ECU or air flow meter
* The buggy is just heavy, so will never be a drag car
* ECU learning will have virtually no effect on open loop performance, so I don't think driving it for a week will make any major gains

Do you have the speed sensor hooked up? Also check fittings and wirring on the map sensor if they have one.

Yes to all, but still haven't tested the air cleaner hose issue yet.
Also the exhaust back preasure should not be radically different. The system is fairly restrictive and very quite at idle.:thumb

Pete, I think your buggy will be at least as heavy as a beetle, and probably heavier than a standard beetle.
A GS Limo long wheel base buggy with alloy bar work, a kombi gearbox and a type 4 motor weighs about 800kg.
Then for yours you can add the weight of;
* the suby motor, arguably not much more than a type 4
* The radiator, fans and fluid
* The extra fiberglass in your body that is lifted
* You have steel bar work, not alloy
* the subframe under your pan is insane and must weigh alot, you should have some idea.

If you are right about the weight, then my car may not be far from the 982kg needed to turbocharge the engine.
Then it might be a dragster.
What do ya reckon?
p.s. Of course, I will have to get it to run properly first.

I bet it tips the Tonne on the scales..........

Found the scared cat. Turned out I had a wiring fault between the ignitor and one side of the coil packs. Now it goes UNBELIEVABLY hard! :thumb
