6 Volt conversion

I am in brisbane, just wondering if anyone knows where i can get my 1960 bug converted to 12 volt. I am hoping to find somewhere pretty cheap to do it. I have asked Mick motors for a quote. Does anyone know where else i could try???

nwarner,
You may be able to do it Yourself..
If You can, it will BE MUCH Cheaper than getting someone to do it.. You will Need 12v : Generator - Regulator - Ignition Coil - Condenser - Flasher unit if fitted - & All Bulbs... - 12v Horn - 12 v Battery -
The Starter Motor & starter solenoid will take 12 volts OK..
The wiper motor will work with a Resistor
sorry, I don't know where You get these, or You can use a two speed 12 v Wiper motor from a 1968-69 Beetle.

shaft size is the same (I believe)..
So, its really NOT a big job. The points & rotor button are OK, switches OK, sender units OK. stoplight switch OK. Biggest job is changing the Generator.. and don't forget all the bulbs - speedo bulbs & interior light bulb.. If Yours is an early 60 Beetle with trafficators [semophores in US] You will NOT be able to use these, unless You can find a resistor to use.
Any other info needed, just ask..

Lee

Hey Lee,
Wouldn't this make a good "Tech Mods & FAQs" entry?

Yes Peter,
It would, I am just answering the question... I have answered this before but couldn't find it .. I have also sent a breakdown of every part & Bulb needed for this conversion , but couldn't find it either... could have been an email or U2U..
and a rough pricing guide..
Keeps the old brain working..
Maybe someone can move these then..
