Seal between Gear Box and Pan on an Oval

Is there supposed to be a rubber seal on or around the area where the selector shaft connects through the pan tunnel to the shifter rod.
1200 Tunnel case box in an Oval.

Would this seal missing or torn make the car really noisy.
I either gotta get a quieter car or a louder radio.:jesus

yeah Ovals only relied on the stock flat type seal, the later 1200s used an extra round section placed onto the top of the stock flat seal.

the round section was about 15mm dia and was approx 30 or 40 mm long, and layed around the gear selector opening you might be able to get some from clark rubber ??

you can add this to your oval as an extra if you want.

It does not seal too good due to no body bolts in this area.

If you have already bolted this down then get some mastick goo black stuff non accidick and use that to seal it up.

to reduce the noise you could also put some felt insulation under the rear seat and also behind it up the fire wall section:bounce

Thanks Dave, you wouldn't have a pic of what this is supposed to look like.
Can you still buy these seals.

Cheers
