Removing window winder 59 Beetle-Anyone?

I want to take the door trims off a 59 Beetle and need to remove window winder and door handles. How do you remove the pins? I was told there is a factory tool, but is it necessary or is there a simple method?

A small hook tool (snap on) is what i use but as a back up i have an old small flat tip thats been ground to a point , just don't slip! Frigging hurts!
