Hmm - not reall tech - but...
can anyone recomend a good product for restoring all the black plastic bits of kombi interior? - I dont want to spend money trying different types if
someone can say a brand that works.
Also..
My floorpan is solid and I am thinking about using sound deadening paint on it before I start my resto. - is it a good idea to use paint on rust kill
before I do this and will the two chemicals react ?
Also in the middle of the floorpan there is a little trap door that is spring loaded - I cant find any mention of it in the manual I have - What does
it do ?
Any advice would greatfully recieved.

For the plastic bits, I've tried amorall and zymol, but wouldn't rave about either.
As for the sound deadening, it depends on what you plan to use? Personally, I would clean everything thoroughly, use rust converter on any signs of
rust, then give a good coat of paint. Only then I would look at using a tar/bitumen type sound deadener.
The flap in the middle of the floor is the heater outlet for the rear most seats in a microbus! There should be a heater tube attached to it
underneath the floor.

I have just painted the front floor in my kombi. Here's what I did:
- removed all dirt, loose rust and grease. This is essential if you want a good job.
- applied rust converter to any remaining rust
- fixed a small rust hole by sanding back and applying fibreglass body repair stuff.
- painted the floor with Kill Rust fish oil. Fish oil gets into all the nooks and crannies.
- painted over the fish oil with a rust preventative primer
- painted over the primer with a bitumen paint.
Probably overkill, but you don't want to have to do it again in a hurry.
You have to allow plenty of time for this process b/c the fish oil and bitumen take days to dry.
I'm not convinced yet that the bitumen was a good idea because it might be too soft and get gouged by the rubber mat.

There was a post some times ago about POR-15 for floorpan protection. Everybody that has used it seems to swear by it, so have a look around for it
