tail pipe removal?they r stuck !!!not anymore
hi there,
i wanted to change my tail pipe as they are in bad shape....i've unbolted the backets connecting to the muffler...and tried to pull them out to
replace them by my new ones...but ...nothing...
anyone got any idea on how i can handle this?

you could try heating the joints a little, tapping with hammer then tug with all your might!

Bit of wd 40, then a stilsen will do the trick and if they are really stuck, use and angel grinder and have to get a new muffler
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

mmmm....
i did put some wd 40...but didn't seem to work....
bix, what is a stilsen?
i try again tonight....
think i may have to visit a muffler place...
or get a new muffler !!!!

Stilsen, like a monkey wrench, those big ones you see the stero typical plumber carrying around. Just give it a little time to work, thry them when
they are hot to.

Hi having same battle with my'61. have one out (heat ,cold chisel bloody big vice) had to remove the whole muffler to get some more elbow room.

Too many butchers!!
Using an angle grinder cut along the bottom of the muffler where the tail pipes slide in,prise open the cut and squirt in some WD type of stuff!Using
multis or vicegrips,twist the tail pipes.It your 're careful,you'll be able to re-use the existing muffler.Have fun!

Be careful with the early 36 hp mufflers. They are getting real hard to find now and exy when you do. Bettter to twist the old tail pipes off even if
they break then carefully dig the bits that are left in out. Possible to run a hack saw blade down inside the bit of the tail pipe thats left in there
to release it.

I WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after a long battle of WD40 spraying...heating....twisting....bending the pipes....spraying WD40 .....hurting my knuckles...bleeding to death from
cuts...more twisting...THE PIPES ARE OUT !!!!!!!!!
anyway after 45 min....
now i got my new pipes on and my cheese grater:thumb:thumb:thumb....one mission down and getting ready for the next one....
