Hey nuffy!
this is not related to your post at all...
but i just looked at your profile (being a fellow brisbanite and all)
and guess what?
We have the same birthday!!!!!!
yay, thats awesome i reckon....the more Aquarians in the world the better!
so yay for you ---- and for me
except i am a '78 model....but trust me...we aquarians get better with age...slowly start to get your head out of the clouds.
well. good luck with the restoration

if i were to have a recommendation, not that i have had any major work done on the type3...but as far as mechanics and good, honest, businesses are concerned
george at custom offroad at stafford (3356 4356)
and trevor at Volks world in windsor (3357 5887)

otherwise i suggest you ring a couple of the VW clubs around brisbane and get a few recommendations from them --- or if you see a dub you like, just ask them where they got their work done.
goodluck, look foward to seeing the finished product on the streets of brisbane
