Nah definitely out for nambucca (as devastated as I am!) - not to mention the fact I have a lot of body work to go, then I am painting it myself (will
hire a spray booth)...then have to get the custom exhaust made up...then have to rewire it from scratch...then have to sort out all the new car
blues!!
I was too ambitious to try and get it done too quickly - as much as I doubled the amount of time estimated for the resto and tripled the expected
cost....I really needed to quadruple both again 
Once you start doing any custom mods, expect teething problems...and lots of them! They can all be worked out but do take time! No concept pics as yet
(not good enough with the puter - did something up on bugselecta but couldn't figure out how to save the pic!).
Ah well, you'll all just have to wait a little longer (my next target is October 2 which is our wedding - which I'd say will be tight but
maybe....maybe a chance - but don't hold your breath!). Now my mate has decided not to finish his project which I was helping him do the body off
resto on, I have some more time on my hand to devote to my own veedub! Although I may have to play around with his new vw though - one of those sporty
Italian designed numbers....la de da!

Well, just seems hard to find time to finish this project!! Everything takes three times as long as anticipated...factor in some f*ck-ups and there
goes another estimated completion date! 12 weeks till the wedding and can now see it is no chance. Lets leave it a bit more open, it will be at Dubs
by the Pub in February - any earlier will be a bonus!
Decided to spruce up the fanshroud - had it powdercoated but seemed a bit bland. Although not a hotrod, I wanted to give it some individuality so
decided to try some flames. Here it is masked up - used 3mm tape to do the curves, some 6mm to help block it out and then various other sized tapes to
fill in the voids. Thought about keeping things like this secret but why not share it with everyone eh?

Here is the first coat of basecoat which was colour matched to the powdercoat colour (which the cylinder covers, breast plate etc were painted in).

Reflections make the colours look different than they really are, but here it is after some silver tips (matched to the other bits of powdercoating
(suspension etc)). Didn't get to the clearcoat today - will have to wait till next weekend unforunately.

Hi Bix, yep I am from tarragindi - not sure who owns the green beetle on andrew ave? I know the guy who owns a mint green ragtop on empi 5's who
lives around the corner from me but not as far as andrew ave? I have seen it around a bit though. :alien

I know that mint green beetle, it parks also sometimes on the street into my street (barford) also seen a blue cb parked near it?

Well, pulled the masking off today - basecoat being matt finish doesn't really make it look too good - jury is still out on whether I really like it
or not...time will tell.
Just waiting for some house of colour paint to do the highlights (edges of flames).

im just trying to help mate when i say this but do you know the spigot bush needs to be changed cause the t4 spigot is 20-30 mm longer. i only know
this cause i did the same conversion in my 1302 and had this problem.

Yep, had a bronze bushing machined and pressed into the flywheel (210mm) which provides support for the type I gearbox input shaft. Cheers for the

Every time I look through this post I sit there in awe.
First I thought the car looked amazing, then I see a rag top fitted and think wow, now the fan shroud.....
I agree the attention to detail is incredible.
I realise none of this is really hard to do - the hard part is containing the impatience to "just get it back on the road".

Thanks for the encouragement - its the stuff you need with a resto project like this! There are many times I thought "a rat look could work" and
wanted to just bolt up the body and get it going...but I knew I'd never want to pull it apart again and finish it properly! The closer it gets to
completion the more I am motivated to get it done so hopefully things will start taking shape soon. The body work is very time consuming though

Still been plugging away on the roof - figured this is quite an important area so have spent lots of time sanding, filling, sanding, filling, guide
coating, sanding, filling, priming, etc - you get the idea. Here it is in primer - still some fine sanding scratches to fill with blade putty but
otherwise it is a lot smoother than when I started. Just the holes to drill for where the ragtop is held in place (thanks Dave for the measurements).

Along with the guards (all four), work continued this evening on the rear drivers side quarter panel. This was hit pretty hard during the accident
many moons ago (original owner's daughter ran into a BMW). A lot of panel beating, bit of shrinking and it is looking a lot better. More massaging to
come.

...and new type IV inlet manifolds which are a little taller than the old ones. Now all the peripheral stuff is here I can start assembling the rest
of the engine and bolt it up to the box.

Work has steadily continued on the rear quarter over the last two weeks - it is at the stage which I am now happy with although have some more high
build primer/guidecoat/sanding etc to go until I am really satisfied.

Just a coat of primer over the top of the repairs (can see some of the filler through) at the moment - will be waiting until all other areas are
repaired before the high build primer goes on.
Work has now started on the front drivers quarter which was also hit pretty hard in the original accident.
