type 3's .. your thoughts
Hi guy & girls .....
I have been offered a 64 type 3 notch... it seem to be a good little car in general.... it just needs a few little things & it would make a great
daily driver.... my worry is this .....
I have never had a a type 3 before & from what i have been told in the last week i am not sure now about buying this one... is it true that parts
now are getting VERY HARD to get ? and also very expencive ?
i look to the greater minds to shed some light on this on for me.
thanks

depends on what parts yr after... Notches are harder to find especially rear glass, engine lids, rear guards as these r different to all other Type
3s.
Early tailights flat style also hard to find
All the rest is the same

no way ! go for it!!!!!!
it is true that type3 parts are a little more difficult to get a hold of --- and yeah i find this frustrating at times ---- but it is not impossible.
being friends with citreon, audi and bmw owners...i dunno...everyone has thier issues re:spare parts -- and i dont think it is so much the expense
difference, just the hassle of tracking them down. but dont let that stop you!
my friends with beetles do annoy me sometimes, mainly becuase of the inter-changability of beetle parts --- and their availablity. but the only thing
i cant find at the moment is window seals ---- and there is always a solultion (modifyingkombi ones...)
dont know...my advice is do it! type 3s are awesome.....have been driving them for 4 years will never comlain or change alligeince......(cant spell
sorry)
my main concern is that you might not be stylish enough yet to cope with the type 3 .......it takes a lot of style to deal with a car that
cool.....your personal style must be fully developed otherwise you run the risk of losing your identiy and just becoming "that person who drives the
extremely cool car".......you will have a moral obligation to be aloof and slightyly hostile to other drivers....eheheh...sorry, just being a wanker
now......
good luck ------------ thorun |

I've got a '69 beetle and a '69 Notch I was in the same boat as you but now wouldn't go back. If you look hard enough you can always find
parts.
As long as you can get basic parts ball joints btake pads etc no problem...go for it.
Then wreck it and I'll buy some parts....only jokin'.....:P

Notchbackius maximus!
I own two Notchs, admittedly late models but the point is they are a classic sedan shape, got two luggage holds, are that little bit more modern that
the beetle, and to top it off, a creed of there own.
There is enough of a base on this forum to find the parts you need, and the people here wont back down from helping you too.
If you want to segregate yourself from the more traditional kombies and beetles then this is my pick of the lesser known, but widely admired
minority.
Just make sure the car has got what it takes in terms of the usual required lack of rust and other cash drains!
Other than that if it's honest enough in itself, go for it, you wont be disatified. There a whole new world to explore in these little critters!

all i can say is, why arent beetles this easy to work on? after fiddling with a 1600 in an oval, and then working on my mates notch, it makes a huge
difference. from changing plugs, to dropping the motor out. easy! i can see VW learnt their lessons from the bug and improved with the type 3.

Uhh.. yeah sorta, but not really.
It's called a 'swamp cooler'. Essentially it is a evaporative airconditioner. Water is poured into the cylinder, absorbed by straw in the cooler,
then when the car is moving, the cylinder scoops the air, pushing it through the wet straw, into the car, and cooling the warmer air in the process.
Brief, but thats how it works.
Usually on the passenger side, but at the same time, these are American items, so...
