Tyre Size

Moving along with the jobs to get my bug on the road the time has come to get some new tyres for my mags.

What is the diameter or circumference of the stock 165R15 tyres?
I think that my current tyre diameter is smaller than the stock size and therefore my speedo shows that I am going faster than what I really am, so I want to get front tyres that are close to stock diameter.

Currently I have 205/60R14's on 6 inch wide rims on the front
and 225/60R14's on 7 inch wide rims on the back.
There aren't many brands of tyres in these sizes and I was thinking of going for 195/70R14's for the front and 225/70R14's or 225/60R14's for the back.

Any ideas?

155x15" or 165x15" Radials

You have Me beat, but the original size tyres were 155 x 15" Radials not 14 inch..
As 155 x 15" tyres aren't readily available these days everyone is using 165 x 15" radials which were the original size for type 3s which had a slightly wider rim [1/2"wider]..
Probably best to get a tape measure and measure Your spare....
I think You are using too wide a tyre for the front...
Many people are using 135 or 145 x 15" on the front...!!

Thanks for the reply,
what was i thinking, of course the stock wheels are 15 inch not 14, woops!
yeah ive got mag wheels
6 inchers on the front and 7's on the back, so the tyres need to be wide, much wider than stock.
The offset on both the front and the back is good enough so that they dont rub on the body or steering (except at full lock under speed :( ) but i had to put wider guards on.
I wish i could get a new set of the old tyres because they have a nice tread pattern (yokohama a-001)

Go to 15's, don't stick with the 14's, get some 185/65r15's for the front or 195's and some 205's for the rear.

I have 205/70/R14 on the back and 195/70/R14 on the front, with stock guards, no rubbing but the steering is heavy!

worked out that at 50 mph I'm actually doing just under 48mph, which is cool with me, keeps those speed cameras quiet

There's a tyre size calculator at:

where you can play with your options.

the original diameter is about 650mm (+/- 4mm)

Old Falcons and bombs (ducks for cover) like that used faaat 14" tyres, so there should be a decent selection out there - just dont bank on 70 series rubber being the best quality... 'Performance' rubber usually stops at the 60 series (for old skool American muscle cars etc..) You might just have to drive a bit faster to get your speedo reading just that little over, or just stick with it and not get fined by the boys in blue... or just stay with the traffic!

PS: get 15 rims! :P
