Brake Question
Hi everyone just a quick question.
this is for my 4/70 1500 front disc brake beetle.
we have had to buy new seal kits for the calipers and have pulled the callipers apart but now we dont know what tension the through bolts have to
be.
Does anyone have a manual with the specs that they could have a quick peak at.
Also does any one know where i can get or have any retainer springs, we think a mother might have thrown out half of the old ones but we arent sure
all we know is we cant find them.
any help as soon as possible will be really really appreciated.
:P Danielle
p.s. Rota_Motor (ryan) will be answering any answers i get most likely.
Cheers

Ryan
the through bolts are 8mm thread from memory. I dont know the torque is specified any where, but i am sure if you do them up to 20 FtLbs will be
acceptable
Make sure you push a bit of coat hanger wire through the brake fluid gallerys to remove the sludge and build up.

NO NO NO compressesed air wont get the SLUDGE out you have to ream or ram and bit of firm wire down there to make sure the passage is clear
Give it a go and let me know what crap comes out of the
YOU WILL B SURPRISED.

yes yes yes, compressed air does get the sludge out, well, compressed air and metho.
when I stripped and cleaned the calipers, I put the compressed air nozzle in one end, and a sausage of sludge emerged from the other end.
then I proceeded to make the metho black with the crud I kept getting out.
so now all I need is the correct torque settings for the through bolts |

yes ive done the same before with compresed air and there still been blocked. Easy to push the wire throught the hole its straight no bends
Ring up Disc Brakes Australia they might be able to tell you the torque setting ... I just mine up bloody tight ... never leaked in 5 years.
