buying a baja advice!(PAID DEPOSIT)

tomorow i am going to look at a 67 baja i dont know a whole lot about the car but i am going to check it out and take it for a drive......apparently what it needs for safty cert is 2 king + link bushes for the front....an axel seal for the rear and a window winder on one of the doors....apparently it is pretty rust free and has a reco 1600 single port with all receipts from reco. any basic advice for me with buying a baja bug?

Chreck it out for rust. A recco front end will cost you about $500 supplied and fitted on an exchange basis.

If the rear axle seal is leaking it may well be because of a bent axle. If it is a real baja up that way it will be full of sand and rust will follow. Check it over just like a beetle and make sure it has the approval paperwork for actually being a a Baja. This will show u it is a legal kit.

Make sure all its bar work is good at to are tyres and steering. These area's let a lot of Baja's down.

you usually buy replacemnet stub axle assemblies. They cost around $200 exchange then the labour to fit and align etc.

It should have modification papers saying it can have a baja kit fitted. Without them it is illegal .

well i went and checked out the baja today......the pan was perfect....it goes rather well.....all receipts for rebuild and extractors and nice noisy exhaust:cool: .....took her for a drive....went great....no major rust but many dents in panels....apparently the guy who had it before this guy had an argument with his son and his son took to the bug with a baseball bat!.....it doesnt look pretty but its nothing i cant fix .....the drivers door isnt a perfect latch but its not too bad the passenger door is perfect.......im not sure what it is with people and carpeting volkswagens with pink velour plush house carpet but this is my second bug with this done and i know of others having the same thing.......the door cards are homemade and not of awesome quality but i shall make some more when i re do the interior so everything matches.....the car is a deep red/maroon colour which i think i will keep after ive fixed the body damage and get a respray......he has the engineers cert for the kit and it is registerd as a baja .....rego expires next month but he is keeping it regoed and getting it fixed for a saftey cert and transfering the rego when it is renewed  im buying the car for 1200 plus cost of getting it to saftey cert
