what's the best oil(type and/or brands) for 1600 kombi engine, how often should it be changed?

Castrol GTX 2 is recommended for VW Air Cooled engines.

Change it every 3000 miles or 6 months whichever is sooner. I use Valvoline 20/50W or Castrol GTX2

Im a loose follower of the GTX2 and change it every 3-5k or whenever I need some time bymyself and i want something easy to do.

With ordinary cars (ie not VW) I use homebrand, but with VW I use GTX2. I don't know if there's really any difference though...
