Twin Kadrons and a 1600 single port engine??
What are the thoughts on a single port 1600cc engine with twin kadrons?? Would it make any difference?
More power? more fuel? Less fuel?
or am I better off changing to twin port heads?
I have changed both heads so I won't be doing it now..
because of the semi Auto setup with vacuum hoses etc, I thought I would have to stick to single port heads etc..
I now know of semi autos overseas running twin ports and twin carbies... so there isn't a problem...
thanks
Lee

I was considering putting kadrons on my 1600 SP recently, but the manifolds aren't that easy to find, the problem i found with the single port heads
is that there isnt really any support for a carb to hang off the intake. The studs are only 6mm and they can pull out of the head pretty easy.
Although a 1600 SP can really go hard, the charge velocity is higher because the ports. I reckon it would be better with fuel if u keep your foot out
of it, and u'd definitely get more power.
I'm running a bog stock 1600 SP with a V-Force AP2 cam , stock exhaust, 30 PICT 3 carby and i got 39HP at the wheels.
whack some extractors on it as well and see what happens.

I am running a 1600 SP with twin weber 34 itc carbs and a 009 it runs very well its no rocket ship but it still kicks along for manifolds I fabricated
my own and used a support bridge between them that runs behind the fan housing thay are about 6 inches long to put the carb up higher and give a good
velocity effect plus thay look cooler than a single carb.

Thanks guys,
I didn't think there were any single port 1600s about.
I haven't seen any single port manifolds about... maybe I can fabricate some from an old inlet manifold...
A retired VW technician in the US told Me that he thought twin Kadrons were really too big for a single port engine but twin webers were better...
Maybe the same ones You are running ph.
It Is common knowledge that standard single port engines have MORE torque than a standard twin port engine...
I did think with the distance the fuel has to travel with a single carby that twins would work better...
cheers

yeah go the single ports!
the only problem is that putting dual 2barrel carbs on it is that the mixtures are separate then combine then separate again, Its a bit silly

My Heads are just standard 1500cc heads, with 1600cc pistons & cylinders etc..
Did any 1500 single port early type 3s have twin solex carbies with manifolds??
Probably were Weber ICTs...
Maybe I should have drilled & tapped for larger studs for the inlet manifold....

Lee, the reason I asked is that you can get 040 single port heads that flow nearly as well as the twin port heads. If you have these then use the
kadrons and don't change the heads.
If you take off the rocker covers you will see if the part number starts with 040......... or 113........
My 1500 beetle is a single port and has the 040 heads.
