i can't find a picture of it at the moment, but everyone's forgotten about the coolest primered/rat ever... the super sh!t box
edit. in its day it ran 1/4's well down into the 11's so it would have to be up there with the fastest as well as the coolest... plus i think it
might have been a dayly driver.
edit 2. don't you hate it when you know you've spelt something wrong but can't work out how it should be spelt.

And I cant find any shots of Marks car.... I know I do have a pick of it somewhere when it had the turbo donk in it.... and I think the picture was
take at one of the last 'Dairy Queen' DKP nights... Thats before the DQ changed hands and became a Pizza place or suminck!

Its a Swamp cooller.... Old school air conditioner.... You put water inside it, and go for a drive.... The only problem with then is they where only
made for the LHD market.... If you own a RHD car, your gonna get a very cold ear! But of course the passenger of a LHD car will get a chilly ear
also!!!!!

The funny thing is.... The term 'Hoodride' was coined by the OG KCW (Grand Junction, Colorado) crew as far as I know... I think Derrick had someting
to do with that, but I have a feeling it might have actually been John Jones who first applied it to VW's.... These car commmonly have narrowed
frontends, raised transaxles and low tech airride suspension....The term 'Rat' was first used in a German VW mag back in the early 00's if I
recollect. But it really took off when the HotRod culture grabbed it..... Here in Oz we have 'Rats' which seems to be all manner of VW's (and cool
old school cars in general) in a slammed, preferrably OG rust/paint/interior condition. 'Hoodride' fits this description..... Now we are seeing a
change in spec too, with cars showing up with detailed undercarriages and more HP.... My own Ragtop has the whole pan detailed with mega power and
4WDisc brakes, narrowed beam and IRS rear.... But the body is as God (Ferdinand) intentended, complete with the aforementioned OG
rust/paint/interior!.... Now Im not one for catagorising a car or a style, but I guess my car would fit somewhere near the 'Hoodride' concept but
with the HiTech (EFI/Intercooled/Turbo) power to take it to the HiPo racer crowd.... Bring it on!

hood ride as in 'hooptie' 'bucket' etc... the sort of car you ride when you're on food stamps...
The Source did a funny article about 5 years ago, where they interviewed brooklynites w/hoopties. They were real hood rides though, like 91 civic's
dead stock that looked like they'd been found in a paddock. No dumping or bling to speak of. Genuine hood rides, or shit boxes. My 89 Barina would
fit in nicely, although hopefully my 66 notch will end up being a fine example of the VW definition of hood ride..... |
