Water Low


Hey guys.
My 1976 Golf seems to be using alot of water like every week its down the 3/4's full. i took it to a mechanic and they dident find any leaks or anything so i cant think of wat it is

It could be a leaking head gasket, but with that amount of water disappearing I'd reckon you'd know by now! ;)

Did they test the radiator cap?
Did they test the cooling system with the heater tap open?
If they were mechanics,you would hope so, but never hurts to ask, just in case they overlooked something!

Crashman,

I hope you mean the overflow bottle is down by a 1/4, not the whole system!!!!
You may need to get a tester that fits onto the radiator and pressurises the system while it's cold. This way you can trace the leaks, as a hot engine tends to evaporate the water. Another test is, if it's leaking into a cylinder, the plug will be spotless!

the head gasket is fine and i will prolly ask mechanic about the other stuff thanks guys.
