Yes and a stock carby will kick a 40 DCN mid mount Weber's arse for drivability, fuel economy, and not far behind in performance either.
get a set of Kadrons if you want a good performance gain or twin 40DCN Webers.

Holley Bug Sprays really make Your engine go.... but uses lots of fuel... and are terrible in cold weather...
Webers are very expensive...
Kadrons seem to be OK.. and don't seem to use any more fuel if they are set up correctly...
I suppose there are many VW engines with the wrong carby setup.. incorrect jets etc.. that use heaps of fuel...

you could try a bigger solex carby say a 32 dunno what kind of performance increase you'd get though? I also have read that SP head have lots of low
down torque but choke at higher revs
Hope this helps,

I had a Holley on my Baja (16years ago!) and it worked well. Changed to Kads and had no probs with fitting them.
Twins fit in a standard beetle engine bay, why not your Baja ? The scoopy thing wouldn't be any closer to the engine than a beetle bootlid :jesus

that's cos of the lack of a fuel cut off solenoid
try letting the clutch up as you turn off the key and blip the throttle.

something different
john at volks home in melb showed me a brand new pair of 34 ict webers complete with manifolds , filters, linkages the whole kit and caboodle, for
850-00. he has been putting them on new 1600,s with great results. thay look the bomb are a good price and are nice and small so fit real easy. i will
get a pair for our 1600 roadster as soon as i got cash. currently the new motor is being let down by a crappy 34 pict and new pict is nearly 500 bucks
