Insurance

I know the topic has been covered many times over, but....

I know most of you have Shannons insurance.
I have requested a quote from them, waiting for the reply.

The vehicle is a 1969 beetle 1500, 1835cc engine, extractors, 15x6 mag wheels, CD player, leather steering wheel. I am 20 years old, have had licence for 2 years, no previous accidents. Car is parked in driveway, not high risk suburb.

Has anyone else had trouble insuring their car with accessories? Do you think shannons will insure my car? For 3rd party F&T or just 3rd party?

Today I went to the RACV and they wouldnt give me 3rd party, fire & theft because the value of my accessories was more than 30% of the market value ($2300), and wouldnt even give me just 3rd party, even though those items wouldnt be covered.

*did* be prepared to spend a good $$$ on insurance with shannons.

i rang around last year seeing what they could offer me insurance-wise, they only do comprehensive and it was going to cost me well over $1.5k per year to have it insured (i was 23, and the beetle is modified)

ring around, theres a few that will do f&t for you, i found they were around $700 a year.

good luck!

this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

I got quoted about $650 for comprehensive at Shannons for a 197.....2 (I think) beetle with an 1835cc engine and I'm a P-Plater (girl tho- that makes a little difference).

Couldn't get it but cos I couldn't garage the car and it must be. =O(

Oh well, my 1500cc gets up hills so I'm happy.

Shannon's will insure any car.

You should get a fairly prompt reply. If not, chase them up.

It is some drivers they wont insure. :)

Thanks guys :)

Shannons called me today and it looks like I'm going to get fully comp. with agreed value at $3000.
Do i have to ask to have salvage rights or are they standard?

It was strange because when i filled out the web form i didnt list all the modifications and accessories, just the main ones, and when i told the guy today that there were more he said oh it doesnt matter anyway, but i said that i wanted to make sure they knew about it.

Funny, Shannons wouldn't insure me because I don't have a garage. Maybe it's because of my suburb, or because I'm in Sydney.

Yeah that was their reaction to my enquiry, too.

If you could make out the shape of the car, they wouldn't comprehensively insure me.

Its very weird, but Shannons do seem to have different requirements in different states. Don't know why??? Anyone?

I'm in Melbourne, and they don't mind that my car is only in a carport.

*shrugs*

Lokita, I've got the Kombi insured with Shannons. There only requirement because it's under a carport and not garaged was that an immobiliser (approved by them) be fitted.
