State super sprint
State Super Sprint 16th May Oran Park Grand Prix Course come along and support Rudie and John. Rudie broke the course record last time in 1601 to
2000cc class and placed 15th outright out of 120 starter including open wheelers, clubmans and full open class sports sedans. Fastest time for the day
was 1min 15sec full deckout sports sedan Rudie ran a 1min 23sec.
Come out and watch or enter you haven't seen a VW perform like it, no! no matter what you think, you haven't seen one go like this it is powered by
BIG BALLS.

Thats pretty good. Oran Park is a mad track, must get up there to run it one weekend.
The V8's do 1:08's... Bump Rudy's car upto about 300HP, some 968 Brembo's, sequential - dog teeth - straight cut trans and he should be getting up
there too

The Porsche Club Supersprint is at Oran Park Sth on the 15th, the day before the state round. That's what Alex is referring to.
Jak, Paul and I will be there. Hopefully I'll knock a couple of seconds off my time. I remember getting valve float with the old street eliminators
last year. I was changing at 6000 and the stupid combo only made 76hp anyway.
Jeff I don't think you should gloat about anybody's times but your own.
I haven't heard Rudi gloating and I think he's a pretty decent bloke.

Yep I'll be trying out the new tyres and I'll be kitted up with a pyrometer to hopefully find the ideal pressures.
These tyres are a bit of an unknown quantity in terms of compound but not design. It will be interesting to see how they compare with the A008s that
are well past their used-by date.
I am surprised you did so well with the A008s. They would never get up to operating temperature in a Hillclimb. The casing should be at least 60
degrees for them to work.

Hey CT what motor is in your car and who built it because I thought you had a 1916 I thought that it should have more then that. I have a 1640cc in my
car at the moment which has 69 to 73hp (after retunung) with very mild cam, kadrons every else standard but machined by Stan. NO I am not taking the
piss your engine should be capible of much more but the combinations have to be right, Jaks car was not producing much more then that at some piont (I
could be wrong) but speak to John he knows the right things to do. I ve build 1640's before that were lucky to run 100mph I listened to John and my
current 1640 73 hp 118 mph with more to go but the car gets to scary at that piont.

Craig,
Trouble with many of the R-spec sizes these days is the aspect ratio. My tyres are 50 series which would be illegal in hillclimbs. Mind you I haven't
read the 2004 CAMS manual. The last time I looked 60 or 65 series was the minimum.
This tyre would suit you're gearing because the OD is similar to your 195/65R14s. However you'd have to go and find yourself some 16 inch rims.
I'd recommend leaving the tyres in the sun or driving around the pits to get any heat in them that you can.

Yeah, last time I checked the class was 60 series too.
CT, what width are your Lotus tires? I saw an Elise with some 175's on the front are they the same as what you have?

I've got the CAMS manual here but I cant see anywhere that it talks about tyre sizes for speed events. You can run your 50 series in a hillclimb in
type SV. You'd be away from the subarus etc who would be in over 3000cc but up against clubmans.
I dont think the tyre temp is an issue at the hillcimbs because everyone is in the same boat. Everyone used to run A008's. Then everyone went to
Dunlop R, now it seems a lot (including me) have switched to yokohama something or other. Maybe I shouldnt say everyone, but I havent noticed a 2E (or
whatever it is now) car on anything but those 2.

I did the same thing, used to run Dunlops (FW1 from memory) then we had some yokohamas on a couple of cars and I haven't looked back They heat up uber-quick.

Hey Cam,
My tyres are 195/50R16 A048E LTS by Yokohama. The LTS stands for Lotus. They are the original tyres on one of the Elise models. I have a picture of
the particular car somewhere.
I would've got a set of A032R tyres but my only options were 195/55R15 but the OD is a bit small. Alternatively 205/60R15s but they're a bit too
wide. I don't think they will reach operating temperature 60- 80 C with the weight of my car and my style of driving.
I haven't tried the A032R but I do know the A008s, are like driving on ice, until they get hot.
Basically I just stumbled across the Lotus tyres and I thought I'd give them a shot. That is one of the benefits of working for Yokohama Tyres.
As soon as I find a straight 15 x 6 cookie cutter to replace my bent one I should be able to do a back to back comparison with the old A008s and the
new A048s.
One thing which may stuff me up is that the rear track on my car is aready wider than the front. Having 6s on the front and 7s on the rear make things
worse. The car oversteers on the limit and that makes me nervous. At Oran Park I will be experimenting wth front wheel spacers and maybe with and
without the sway bar.
I've enjoyed the A048s on the steet. I took a Sunday drive up the old pacific hwy to Jak's house last sunday and the tyres felt good. The track's a
different thing though. I took the tyre temps and only the inside edge of the tyres are doing any work due to the camber. When I tip the car into
corners a bit harder I'll know. The inside edges still got up to 40 degrees so they might get up to 60 if I drive like a lunatic. Eastern Creek might
be a better bet than Oran Park.
I hope the tyre talk has made the post a bit more interesting.

Thanks CT, I'm currently running 205/60R14's on the 76 bug for hillclimb. I previously ran 205/60R15's.
What I'm now wanting is a tyre for my 15 x 7's,15x6's Porsche cookies for my road car I'm building. So the A048's maybe a goer or the A032R ??
Have you used these in supersprints?
Sorry not too sure what you guy's have been using !!!!

Craig the A032Rs would be the go. That's what most of the club cars are using. As I mentioned it is important not to go too wide.
I've been in the passenger seat of your car when straight ahead is best viewed outside the passenger side window. If you drive like that on the out
lap they should be warm well by your second flying lap.
Do you want a standard OD of 630 for your tyres or something similar to your Hillclimb tyres with an OD of 610?
A 205/55R15 has an OD of 608 ans suits 6.5-7.5 rims.
A 205/60R15 has an OD of 631 and suits a 6.0 - 6.5 rim but I'd say you could get away with a 7.0 rim.
The 195/55R15 may be an option for the front but the OD is small at 593.
FYI by law you can only go 15mm bigger or smaller than the factory tyre including optional tyres. But that's for road registered cars.
These tyres are suited to club sprints, lap dash events and circuit racing.
They've been around a while and are well proven.

So what does yokohama recommend for a hillclimb tyre and what are they worth for a 205/60/15? I imagine something that is sticky at room temperature
wont last too long huh?
My problem seems to be that the tyres dont get enough use. I've got an old set (well, a pair) of Dunlop R's that are as good as a Grand Rally S,
and now with g/box #2 grenading it looks like the yokohamas will end up that way too.
Craig, are you registered for the NSWHCC this year?

I can't give you prices because we're only wholesale not retail. Call our Motorsport distributor, they'll also have the best advice on Hillclimb
tyres. They know a hell of a lot more about motorsport than I do. I think the best hillclimb tyres are melt by looking at them Avon cross ply tyres
but I don't think any would fit a beetle. R-spec tyres are probably the only option.
