Fuel Injector dimensions ?


People, I have what I always thought would be a simple question to answer - what are the critical dimensions of a standard injector ?

I have been mulling over designs for fuel injection manifolds and etc, and unfortunately I dont have any old injectors laying around to measure. I was hoping one of you would, or would have the dimensions that I need.

Basically I need to know the outside diameter and length of the bottom part of the injector (ie the part that goes in the intake manifold), the outside diameter and length of the top part of the injector (ie the part that goes in the fuel rail), and the overall length of the injector. The distance between the two o - rings is important too I guess.

If no one has any of this, I guess I will just have to try and find an injector from a wreckers somewhere, but if you never ask, you never get anything.

Go to a fuel injection service centre, they are bound to have stuffed ejectors laying around. I've done that before when I first wanted to learn about injection.



Spyder-WISD 07-09-05 11.6s @ 125 MPH

Speedster-WISD Nats 05 14.4s @ 89 MPH

Jet cruiser-Coogee 22-09-05 900 deg C @ 110,000 rpm

Speedster I would do that, its logical, but for the next month I am stuck on 12 hour days, hence no time to in the immediate future.

Hi Doug,

I will go and have a dig around in the garage, I have a couple of injectors kicking around - two from a type III and 4 from a JE Camira. Will either of these be OK?

If you're making your own system, check around on prices of new injectors. There are different styles and the price and availability varies greatly. If you have the option now, go for something cheap and readily available. :)

...it took me almost half an hour just to find the injectors!

I have just finished taking the engine out of my '63 bug so that I can replace the flywheel seal (and this will hopefully stop it bleeding on the driveway), so I have tools and parts from 2 cars all over the garage now!

..however I hope the picture below will help you - if you need a bigger picture click here. If you need more measurements than are on this pic just let me know. As you can probably tell, I have modified my injectors so that I can clamp hoses onto the ends of them (like the VL Commodore injectors) rather than fitting them directly to the fuel rail. It's probably not the best way of doing it, but as one of the injectors was cracked in this area anyway I thought it was worth a go - might update to VL injectors in the future...

Let me know how you go (and don't forget the pics when it is done!)

Ta muchly. I was kinda thinking of using the oringed top section as well, and having a fuel rail machined up to suit, but if you have already removed that top section, I guess you dont have that dimension any more !!!!

Are you using the T3 or the camira injectors in your conversion ?

Do you have any idea how much the camira ones flow ? I think there is some good links from Dunebuggy.com to injector flow rate lists - if you know the Bosch part number then its easy to find out.

Yep, I'm planning on using the Camira ones on my conversion. As I mentioned before I had a damaged injector when I recieved them from the wreckers, so I thought that the best way of using the injector was to remove the section that fits into the fuel rail (with the o-ring) and use hoses from the fuel rail instead. The VL Commodores use the same system so if I have problems with the Camira injectors then I can upgrade to the VL injectors....hopefully!

I have no idea how much the Camira ones flow. I worked on the theory that the Camira is (was) a 2 litre engine and I am planning on using a 1835cc so perhaps they won't be that different....? Not sure if that is the correct theory to use, but it should, at least, allow me to get it started and drive it.

I will have a look at that site you have listed and see what the flow rate is on the Camira injectors. Thanks. Just incase you are interested the Bosch number on the injector in the photo is 0 280 150 725.

... the only bit I removed from the injector was the plastic clamp section (where the injector-fuel rail clamp goes to hold the injector to the fuel rail). The o-ring simply sits where the top 'flange' is on the injector in the photo (over the metal centre). There has been no other mods.
