Say another one and I'll tell you if I haven't heard it...I tend to forget them if I don't hear them....

Wait I just bought my Mum a book...'My Mother Used to Always Say'....

OK I'm back!!!!:D

Nice girls don't...

Get their ears pierced

Wear black underwear

Eat in the street

Smoke in public (really...my mum said don't smoke....full stop!!!!)

Dye their hair

Make the first move

Get in front of taxis (does that mean walking in front of a taxi? :P)

Another one...

Maternal support.....'You'll be better off without HIM!!!!' :(

Wah...my mother used to have some beauties!!!!

used to be a manager at work that called everyone Guv'

and while in tassie.. the in thing was "dead Set".. i didnt like it :|

some i use are

Good-jin (good)
to "Pepper" (stirr/tease)
Random (ie Your a Random guy)
Mad.. just in front of a sentance.. ie" Mad getting petrol at 3am", and "Mad Need a Jump Start!"

and Sif - as if

"Mad Sif i'll get you a drink.. your Random guy"

Yes I can remember many people using "Deadset" many years ago...
Another very old one, not heard very often these days-
"Good aye old Cock" [males] Never ever heard a female version.. I didn't really like being called that anyway... it was used in female company too, so it must have been a Common phrase many years ago...

Bummer! As in 'Surf was out today! Wat a bummer dude!

Gromit - was a term i remember using a few years back calling all the new year 8 high school kids gromits

'Lov ya lots like jelly tots!' - was just a saying

'Wat ever tickles your fancy' - another saying that i said to a junior where i use to work and she had to aske me three times wat i'd said bcos she'd never heard it b4. (plus i've heard altered versions of it just not the original for a white)

'My name's Billy not Silly' - saying used to proclaim one's knowledge 'OH really?! ! ya think im stoopid, nah my name's Billy not Silly'

Having a Captain Cook - having a look (my father says it all the time)

Thats all i can think of for the moment! If i hear anymore i'll post em for yas!

Regrettably there is a lot of good Australian venacular which has "bitten the dust", especially in the saturating onslaught of vacuous American kulcha; its enough to make you "decorate the garden" with a "technicolour yodel".

Quite a few of the examples cited above are rhyming slang ("Captain Cook", "China" = "china plate" = mate) which can be traced to Cockney English.

Up to the end of the '50s Aussie English was pretty well decorated with expressions we don't hear anymore, but with the advent of television they were suffocated.
