another engine number question
Hey guys,
I know that there are a few threads on engine numbers already, and a few web sites elsewhere (see below), so sorry if I have overlooked something
obvious.
There are also some engine numbers listed in the Haynes manual I have.
However, I can't seem to find info about where an AS engine is from. Some guy selling a Kombi says it has a 2litre engine, with the code AS306852
(melb trading post - anyone know it? Warragul) The only info I have found suggests that this is a beetle typeI engine, and a 1600 at that. Or a
"replacement case", huh?
Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? I don't know if the engine number quoted is from the fan shroud or the engine block.
Thanks folks, Aurel

Sometimes new brazilian/mexican cases come without engine number so sometimes they are stamped with a Police number. The ones I've seen usually start
with PC

"AS" is usually a late 1600 upright engine, with an AS21 thin stud case.
