Vee Dub Hot Rods..
It seems like there is a thin line between rat lookers and rods.. Although the looks are usually completely different, (with the exception of rat
rods) they are usually catagorised in the same pigeon hole..
So I have come to thinking we basically extend the title of this section to incorporate this. Something like "Rods and Rats forum" or something like
that anyway..
I have noticed a few rod pics floating around here already, mainly from twoguns, but there is others.
Main point of post.. This months VW Trends is a must.. Full features on a many rods, and how-to-rod, rod accessories, etc.. A MUST!
Page 52 is incredible, and possibly one of the best VW's I have seen in a while..

I'll find pics of the aforementioned Bug, but it appears that heaps more has been done to it since this pics found on Samba...
He has since added dummy spots, blue dots, more pinstripping, lakepipes, etc..

When I hear the word "ROD" mentioned I think of the beetle with missing wheel guards, soft top, quality finished torsion tubes and trailing arms,
etc
I'll try and find a pic

agreed
I'm certainly up for the name change. Won't alter the content of this section of the forum, but will allow rodders to feel more comfy around rats
Vanderaj? time for the name change. I was sick of 'rat fanciers forum' anyway

there use to be a site http://www.volksrods.com but it seem to have disappeared that
site was great they even had beam extenders so if you were running a guardless bug you could get the front wheel out like the above pics
it might work for someone else. could be just my pc but there was a site there

My front end extender has been on order for about 6 weeks...
Should have been here by now...
I already have the spoke wire wheels, which are 17's and came from a 1933 Chev'. I have a beetle that my uncle bought brand new over 35 years
ago...
The car will be getting a 1998cc ex drag motor and will be getting a W deckild and possibly oval or split rear window..
Eventually it might get a roof chop, which would see about 5 inches taken out and I will then put in a factory rag roof from an early beetle..
Paint scheme is as yet undecided but I am leaning towards semi gloss black with red rims and possibly white wall tyres..
The car probably won't see a lot of road use..
The question of early I beam front axles has been raised with the local authorities, and they are not keen to see a suspension system that Pre-dates
the build of the car being fitted... This means that if you want to do any sort of modification to the front end, you'd be better of, (Legally), by
fitting the extender rather than the I beam..
Further to the legal issues, most states of Australia require the vehicle to be fitted with some sort of mudguards and if you remove the VW fenders
you will need to at least run "Cycle Fenders", as the type which can typically be seen fitted to early Fords and the like, that have received the
same "Hi-boy" treatment, although making them removable for show or cruises will be a must in my book..
I have purchased a set that were being used on a 1932 Ford Hi-boy roadster...
With luck and some spare time the car should be ready towards the end of this year, but at this stage it is one of a few projects that have to share
what little spare time I have..nn[ Edited on 22-7-2005 by WABaja ] |
